Incredible experiences.
Powerful stories.

A small-group trekking journey through mountains, caves, villages and former resistance sites connected to Timor-Leste’s struggle for independence. This is a journey through places where fighters hid, communities supported the resistance, and families survived through one of the most important periods in Timor-Leste’s history.

Between 1975 and 1999, Timor-Leste's Falintil resistance fighters survived in some of the most rugged terrain in Southeast Asia — moving between mountain strongholds, hiding in caves, and depending on remote communities to feed, shelter and warn them.

The Resistance Trek follows that same ground, on foot — from the jungles of Mundo Perdido through the remote communities of Loihuno, Nahareka and Quelicai to Matebian, the mountain the Timorese call the "mountain of souls." Along the way you'll walk with the freedom fighters and communities who lived it.

This trek has been designed with people at the heart of it. You'll meet Timorese people and hear their stories firsthand — how they overcame, survived and resisted to win their nation's independence. It's a walk through living memory, on the land it happened on, told by the people it belongs to.
